The Mantis Collection and N0 5 welcome a new Executive Chef.
There’s a new chef in town! Morne Posthumus joined the world class team at No 5 by Mantis, in January 2016. Morne brings fantastic local and international experience to the property, having just returned from a seasonal contract on a superhighprofile and ultra exclusive luxury island in the Seychelles. Morne is originally from East London and started working under the guidance of his mentor, Oliver Coetzee.
Morne says that he didn’t ever consider cooking as a profession, but it grabbed him and once it bit him, it created a curiosity and excitement about food in him that could not be ignored.
He describes his cooking style as an ongoing love affair with what is seasonal, local and trendy. “There’s just so much more to food than creating a dish and putting some produce on a plate”, says the 32 year old. Morne adds; “ I enjoy looking at food from a different angle and I really want my guests to feel that everything has been thought about and understood before it touches the plate.” Morne says that his plans for No 5 by Mantis are to create and inspire.
The menu’s will be changing regularly according to what he can find from local suppliers and markets, he seems to get bored quickly and says that he enjoys the stimulation and challenges of working with new or previously explored produce to create something memorable. We wish Morne the best for his future at No 5 and within the Mantis group, and look forward in aiding him to go from strength to strength.
