Lion Camp by Mantis
A Mantis Eco Escape Experience
the pride of the south luangwa
Mantis Lion Camp offers guests an exclusive stay at this hidden gem situated in the North of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. Guests will be treated to a truly authentic wilderness safari with an abundance of game viewing.
The location of Lion Camp, which is a generous distance from the park gates, allows guests the opportunity to experience secluded safaris, with few other vehicles disturbing the peaceful wild. The living, breathing ecosystem has been protected fiercely to preserve the pristine reserve. Adventurous travellers are afforded the opportunity to view over 60 animal species and 400 bird species.
The thriving Luangwa River gives life to the reserve and the animals within it. Lion Camp offers guests the chance to experience a fully ‘green’ operation as this is the only lodge within the park that is carbon neutral and no plastic bottles are used on site.
luxurious tented safari
Elevated above the Luangwa Valley floor, Lion Camp’s tented rooms have a ‘tree house’ aesthetic and are made up of canvas walls and a thatch roof. A central winding walkway joins the suites to the main area. All the suites have spectacular panoramic views of the oxbow lagoon and plains area in front of the entire camp. The netting at the front of each bedroom can be rolled up to access a shaded private deck directly from the room. Bathrooms are off to the side of each bedroom to provide privacy while ensuring an unobstructed view out. For comfort in the hotter months, each suite has an Evening Breeze cooling unit above the bed.

The Mantis Factor
Situated at the end of the Great Rift Valley, the steep banks of the Muchinga Escarpment form the park’s western boundary and the Luangwa River forms most of the eastern boundary, with the exception of the Nsefu and Luamfwa sectors.
Flowing for over 800km from its source in the remote hills of North Eastern Zambia into the Zambezi, the Luangwa River is the lifeblood of the Luangwa Valley. As it winds along the valley floor creating oxbow lagoons and open plains, alluvial deposits have resulted in rich soils capable of supporting high-quality grassland, woodland, and forest.
Access: Located in the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia, Africa. International flights arrive daily in Lusaka at the Kenneth Kuanda International Airport. Airlines flying to Lusaka include SAA, Ethiopian, Emirates and Kenya Airways with key connecting hubs in Dubai, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Addis Ababa. Proflight provides daily flights between Lusaka Airport and Mfuwe Airport. There is a 3 Hour transfer from Mfuwe Airport to Lion Camp, most of which is a game drive through the South Laungwa National Park.
