The Challenges of Working Remotely
How Mantis built a luxury hotel on St Helena Island
With no other form of transport other than the RMS St Helena mail ship which travelled between Cape Town and St Helena once a month; one can imagine the challenges that came with planning, building, and decorating a luxury hotel 2000 nautical miles from Cape Town.
“St Helena is probably Mantisā most challenging project to date and one of the development team’s flagship projects. Being remotely situated 2000 nautical miles from Cape Town had its own challenges. Again, drawing from the expertise of our team. We had to put in a highly experienced project manager from Mantis, Graham Vass. We had a really good construction company that we had sourced from Cape Town. With a professional team pretty much being situated and located in South Africa. We didn’t have many hours on the site and a lot of that work was done by correspondence, emails,Ā Zoom calls. However, no matter what – Mantis had to continue with the project. ” – Bruce McNicol, Director of Development – Mantis.
