Empowering Women, enriching communities
When sleeping women wake, mountains move - African proverb
Women in Africa have long been the custodians of traditions and the nurturers of community spirit. In the tourism industry these roles are elevated – giving guests a glimpse of the rich heritage of the continent, while showcasing its natural beauty, fauna and flora. Women provide travellers with unforgettable experiences that also uplift local communities.
According to World Travel & Tourism Council data, women in tourism account for nearly 40% of the workforce. In Africa the estimate is higher, around 50%. Reinforcing the vital role women play in the tourism sector.
With International Women’s Month coming to a close, we celebrate and support the incredible women who work in this industry and introduce you to a few that help set Mantis apart. The trailblazers, who run incredible properties in beautiful locations, work hard to create exciting experiences for visitors to Africa, while supporting local women and ensuring communities and wildlife thrive.
