At Mantis Epic Hotel and Suites, we believe that nature is our life-support system. From the fresh air we breathe, to the clean water we drink, nature provides the essentials we all rely on for our survival and well-being. And it also holds the key to our prosperity, with millions of livelihoods and much of our economic activity also depending on the natural world.
We know that we are losing nature faster than it can restore itself. And without urgent action, significant harm to people and the planet is inevitable: inadequate food and water for our growing global population, significant harm to our economies, and the mass extinction of a species.
Meanwhile, the warning signs continue to mount, regarding the loss of biodiversity due to human activities.
In 2022 Mantis Epic hotel established Five (5) conservation projects i.e., Tree planting/Nursery beds, Beehives, birds, and bats boxes, Butterflies Garden, and the Reintroduction of aquatic plants to ponds and streams. In order to protect and restore nature for the benefit of people and the environment, proposing no more loss of natural spaces or extinctions as well as halving the negative ecological impacts of production and consumption.
Mantis Epic hotel and suites planted 500 indigenous trees and 30 fruits, in its garden compound, and also in our regular partnership with the local schools, we managed to plant 300 indigenous trees and 100 Agroforest trees in Mirama primary school. Aquatic plants were planted in the hotel pond which provided shelter for aquatic habitats like frogs, toad pods, fish, snails, insects, and other aquatic microorganisms, this was important in balancing aquatic ecosystems. 25 bat boxes were installed in every corner of the compound; besides that, 2 modern beehives and one traditional hive were introduced, all are filled with colonies of bees.
The fate of environmental protection, human development and nature are linked together. We must transform our working systems to achieve healthy people and a healthy planet It’s clear our effort in conservation need to change urgently to work with the environment, not against it.
