Awaken your pioneering spirit, take the journey to St Helena; one of the last rarities in the world. As the dawn of air transport came upon this remote destination; Mantis came and created the island’s first premium hotel in the original East India Company’s barracks which were built in 1774.
Your stay at Mantis St Helena will be an authentic celebration of the times and culture currently unfolding on the island; a celebration of history, heritage and natural beauty, and an insight into the possibilities that are on the horizon. Eight of the 30 bedrooms are in this historic building, and the rest are contemporary rooms in the newly-built wing of the hotel.
Mantis St Helena is located at number 1 Main Street, just a few minutes away from the seafront, restaurants, shops, and other attractions. Nestled in the valley of Jamestown, the island’s capital, on the northern and leeward side of the island. Mantis St Helena gives you a glimpse of St Helena’s spectacular scenery; from clear Atlantic waters past sheer cliffs and breath-taking rock formations, through the arid red desert, through rolling green hillsides to a pinnacle of a prehistoric forest.

The old with the new
Mantis St Helena Hotel is a combination of a restored historic building and a new contemporary wing that has been built to complement the cityscape of Jamestown. There are two sets of wheelchair-friendly rooms with adapted showers, as well as inter-leading rooms. The bar, restaurant and terrace are wheelchair-friendly and the hotel is child-friendly.

St Helena is one of the world’s most remote islands, situated above the Tropic of Capricorn, almost midway between Namibia and Brazil. You can only fly to St Helena Island from South Africa.
Flights leave weekly from O.R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg every Saturday.
Flights operated by Airlink and is a 5-hour flight with a fuel stop in Nambia. No compulsory vaccinations required to enter St Helena.
